Description: Microbiologists study the growth and development of microscopic organisms as well as an organism's relationships to diseases. They hope to come to a better understanding of microorganisms to prevent epidemics and other major health issues. Microbiologists must have at least a Bachelor's degree to obtain an entry-level job in the field. However, most go on to earn a doctoral degree so that they can focus on more research oriented work.
